Sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old.

(a) A person commits the crime of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old if he or she, being 16 years old or older, subjects another person who is less than 12 years old to sexual contact.

Sexual contact means any touching of the sexual or other intimate parts of a person done for the purpose of gratifying the sexual desire of either party.

(b) Sexual abuse of a child under 12 is a Class B felony with a sentence of no less than two years and no more than 20 years of incarceration. A person convicted is considered a sex offender and must comply with Alabama's sex offender Registration and Notification Act called SORNA for short. this means there are specific laws that apply to them, and should those laws be violated; further charges can result.
